About the Event

Galston Equestrian Club is hosting a good old fashioned Gymkhana where there is a class to suit everyone!

Open to GEC and EA members 10 years +

There will be 2 Hacking rings : 1 Open and 1 Funkhana ring plus Mounted Games.

Cost:

GEC Members: $60 (Entry to as many classes and games as you wish) Non-Members: $70 (Entry to as many classes and games as you wish)

Hacking program - Riders may ONLY compete in one ring OPEN RING - Plaiting and English attire compulsory except for class 4 Led Classes 1. Led Pony or Galloway n/e 15hh (judged on horse’s conformation & paces) 2. Led Horse 15hh+ (judged on horse’s conformation & paces) 3. Champion & Reserve Champion Led Mounted Classes (judged on the horse's paces, education and responsiveness) 1. Best Presented Mounted - any discipline e.g. western, english, side saddle, bareback (judged on cleanliness, effort and style) 2. Best Educated Mount - Any discipline 3. Ridden Pony n/e 14hh 4. Ridden Galloway 14-15hh 5. Ridden Horse 15hh+ 6. Champion & Reserve Champion Mount Rider Classes (judged on the rider's position, style & effectiveness of aids) 1. Rider under 18 yrs 2. Rider 18-40yrs 3. Rider 40yrs+ 4. Rider of any discipline e.g. western, english, side saddle, bareback 5. Champion & Reserve Champion Rider CLASS RULES • Classes that are “Any Discipline” may use the attire attributed to the style • Helmets and appropriate riding boots are mandatory • Ribbons given to 4th place • Top three ribbon winners eligible for Champion class • Judge may decide to run classes concurrently depending on the number of participants • Judges decision is final • Open ring closes no later than 1.15pm • Mounted games commences when Open Ring has concluded

FUNKHANA RING - open to combinations who have not competed in the open ring or who have not placed in an open show Led & Ridden Fancy Dress Classes - rider and pony/horse can be dressed up in fun attire, however rider must wear an helmet and riding boots. Fancy Dress Classes (judged on presentation) 1. Led Fancy Dress Pony/Galloway/Horse 2. Ridden Fancy Dress Pony/Galloway/Horse Mounted Classes (judged on the horse's paces, education and responsiveness) 1. Best presented 2. Beginner’s mount 3. Pleasure mount 4. Champion mount Rider Classes (judged on the rider's position, style & effectiveness of aids) 1. Novice rider under 18 yrs 2. Novice rider 18 yrs+ 3. Champion rider 4. Encourager class (for those who have not won a ribbon, judged on positive rider attitude) CLASS RULES • In Funkhana ring, snaffle (or bitless) bridles only. Any kind of saddle is acceptable. Plaiting is optional. • Boots, bonnets, bandages and ancillary reins/martingales are not permitted. • Helmets and appropriate riding boots are mandatory. • Judging criteria will be explained in the program, and prior to the kick-off of each hacking class. • Judge’s decision is final. • Ribbons to 4th place. No champion or reserve champion awarded in fancy dress classes. • Champion & reserve champion awarded only in Mounted and Ridden Classes Mounted Games Ring opens 1.15 and closes at 2.30pm Bending between 6 poles Rider past the timer line and weave through the six poles, then turn the end pole and weave back down, again turn at the last pole and weave back up, then trot or canter in a straight line back across the timer line. The fastest time will win. Potato Race There are two barrels, each of which has a small bucket on top. There are 2 potatoes in the far bucket. The rider must ride up to the far barrel, pick up a potato, then ride down an drop it in the bucket on the near barrel. Then repeat this one potato at a time until all 2 potatoes are in the nearest bucket. The fastest time and all potatoes in the bucket will win 3 Barrels Three circles around the barrels, can be done at a walk or trot or canter. The fastest time will win Jug Lift A jug will be on top of a barrel inside a circle lined by witches hats. Rider must ride in, circle to the right and exit, turn, re enter do circle to the left and exit, turn, re enter Straight to stop at the barrel. Lean over lift jug above head and place back on the barrel then leave walking forward out of the circle. The fastest time and the jug placed back on the barrel will win. CLASS RULES • One horse/rider combo for the day • Mounted games are completed individually. Riders get one practice go for each game. The second attempt is timed. • Entrants must only enter either the Open Ring & Mounted Games or Funkhana & Mounted Games • Helmets and appropriate riding boots are mandatory • Ribbons to 6th place in mounted games. If you have to leave before all entrants have completed the games and you want to know if you have received a ribbon please leave your phone number and you will be contacted. If you do win a ribbon you will need to make your own arrangements to pick up the ribbon from Karen Norsa the organiser.
