About the Event

Annual Gymkhana

Join us for a classic gymkhana, with led and ridden events for horses and ponies, and rider classes for all ages.

We encourage an honour system regarding horse/pony heights and rider experience.

  • A Pony must not exceed 14h
  • A Galloway must be over 14h and not exceed 15h
  • A Show Horse (Hack or Hunter) is over 15h
  • Novice is a horse or rider who has not won a first place in a similar class.
  • The Newcomer Ring is for newcomer handlers and riders, rather than newcomer or green horses.
  • Ribbons to 5th place, Champion and Reserve Champion sashes.

Open Ring

The Open ring will have led and under saddle classes for Ponies, Galloways and Horses, and age classes for riders. It will be a great opportunity to bring out horses new to showing into a calm, welcoming competition space, without the “ag show” environment. This ring  will be run under the EA National Show Horse Rules where possible, however classes will be designated by height, rather than Hack and Hunter divisions. Classes will include Led, Novice and Open Ridden, and Novice and Open Rider, with Champions and Reserves in each section.

Newcomer Ring

This ring is for newcomer competitors who have not previously competed or who have extremely limited competition experience (showing, dressage, eventing, working equitation).  This ring will have a range of classes that will give newcomers to showing (and competing) multiple opportunities to experience a safe, welcoming  “show” environment.  The Led classes will be judged on the handler and their presentation, rather than horse movement and conformation, while the ridden classes will focus on calmness and suitability , and the rider classes on position, kindness and effectiveness. Under saddle classes will be required only to walk on the ring in a group, and only trot and canter for individual workouts, where appropriate and deemed safe by the judge. Led Newcomer Rider classes are not open to Riders in Newcomer Rider classes, or those who have ridden in any under saddle classes, and will be conducted at walk only.
