Dressage Competition - Monday 4th October

Galston Equestrian Club will be running an Official/Associate Dressage Competition on Monday October 4th - the October long weekend.  This will be our last Official Competition of 2010.  With many judges away at WEG, more at Dubbo, and still others with previous commitments, we were fortunate to secure judges that will allow us to run up to Elementary.  So it will be a smaller Comp than last time, with class sizes again strictly limited, so don't hesitate to get your entries in or you might miss out!

Closing date is Friday September 17th.  Entries will only be accepted if posted to P.O. Box 241 Galston NSW 2159, with entry form correctly filled out and accompanied by a signed waiver and full payment.

If you have any questions, give Mary a call on 0402 974 449.

Our Report

Posted on 3rd August 2010

Our Dressage events are getting bigger and better. We had riders from all levels enjoy friendly well organised competition. It was a great spectator day to watch some very lovely horse and rider combinations go through their paces. We had a number of spectators enjoyng the grassy hill and sunshine while it lasted.

The weather held out for most of the day but a downpour after lunch saw only the most stoic riders and their willing horses stay to complete their tests. We have received some very complimentary emails and comments so thank you to the competitors who took the time to do this.

As always no competition can be successful without all the volunteers, judges and organisors, so thank you to you all. We have two more dressage competition dates for this year in October and December so keep checking the website closer to these dates for details.

Our kind supporter Jo Arblaster took some fabulous photos. For professional size copies of these photos please contact Jo directly on 0402 461 123 or 4575 4097 or joarblaster@yahoo.com.au.

Results for the day can be found here.

Our Report

Posted on 28th June 2010

The Committee crossed its collective fingers that the weather would hold up for the 23rd May to enable us to host the club’s second gymkhana. It was touch and go, but the gods were smiling and one by one the competitors arrived in shiny boots, immaculate outfits and saddled up their beautifully groomed horses and ponies. Soon the grounds were filled with ponies and horses warming up with sparkly browbands and neatly plaited manes and tails. The smell of freshly polished leather filled the air. A touch of hoofoil here, a final adjustment there and all were assembled, eagerly awaiting their judges.

The substantial and well turned out assembly of riders and horses was a sight to behold and the judges were really impressed at the size and quality of the assembly and the quality of the grounds.

The event was well attended with numbers up from last year and a third of competitors were non-members, so word is getting out beyond our members, that GEC events are worth visiting.

We were lucky to get three very experienced hacking judges, Leslie Dowey for the Funkhana Ring, Jack Dean for the Novice Ring and Marie Sanders for the Open Ring.

All judges took their role as seriously as they do at any major show, but were also very helpful and at times instructive to our riders to help them gain experience at competitive showing. Many riders commentated afterwards how helpful and fair the judges were in their ring.

The overall Supreme Rider was won by Rie Wileman on Ethan and Supreme GEC Members Mount was won by Michelle Becchio and Rosedale Beaujolais.

The open ring was contested by some very experienced riders. Alysha Welsh and Harrington Park Envy Me won the Led Champion, Michelle Becchio and Rosedale Beaujolais won the Open Champion Ridden and Champion Rider.

The Novice Ring Led Champion was Yasmin Parfett on Scarlett, Champion Ridden and Champion Rider was Rie Wileman on Ethan.

The Funkhana Ring was the most hotly competed ring of the day and was well attended by riders of all ages and mounts of all sizes, which made for some challenging judging.

Morgan Taylor won Champion Led and Ridden exhibit with her horse Kynona Kimiko and Molly Breatnach on Colours won Champion Rider.

Our thanks go to Horseland as our generous sponsors, our volunteers for Ring Stewards, Canteen Duty and various ground duties. Without their help this event would not have been possible. A special thank you goes to Clint Jones for giving up his sleep in on Sunday morning to be our parking attendant.

Our Report

Posted on 7th June 2010

The year has definitely got off to a great start with both our showjumping days going ahead - the first, a clear round day encouraging everyone to get into the swing of things held on the 14th March and a competition on 11 April.

We ran an AM7 competition with classes for all comers ranging from 50cm up to 105cm.

The course was demanding and quite long and very few clear rounds were seen on the day, but the good news was everyone rode to the best of their ability and we had lots of PBs, we also had some new faces enjoying our wonderful facility and new jumps!

One of the highlights of the day was Greg Mann’s round in the 85cm class – Greg rode the only clear round of this class therefore being the only rider to ride the jump off round!

A clear winner and one of the classiest rounds I had ever see this pair do – deserved winners!

Again thanks goes to all my helpers/volunteers on the day who helped put up/pack up, time, pick up poles, (wo)man the canteen, bbq the sausages, take registrations etc Our Showjumping days are always a success because of you!

Check out the photo gallery for photos of our Showjumping day.

Some late breaking news which will be appreciated by all my helpers is that our Showjump Trailer is currently being made and we may even have it for the next competition! Watch this space! Karl Steininger from ‘Over The Top’ show jumps who supplied our wonderful fences and sponsored our Blue Brick fence is making it for us.

A reminder – Dress Code – please be aware that on competition days you are required to dress appropriately blue singlet tops and blue jodhpurs will not be accepted! Please dress in light coloured jodhpurs and a collared shirt or polo top – sleeveless tops are not permitted. Short or long boots are acceptable/chapets are permitted as long as they are not suede – helmets are mandatory.

When walking the course you should be dressed as if you riding – helmets should be worn and whips carried.

Lastly special thanks go to our sponsors Horseland Dural who supplied product from Kelato in the shape of a bag of KelatoVIT Optima, a bucket of Kelato Appearance, for first and second place getters and wormers from Equimax (Virbac) and Noromectin Paste (Norbrook) for 3rd and 4th place recipients. – prizes well worth coming along for!

Results for the day can be found here.

Clear Round Showjumping Day - Sunday 14th March

Please call Mary on 0402 974 449 to register.

Our Report

Posted on 21st March 2010

Galston Equestrian Club held its first Showjumping Day for 2010 on Sunday 14th March at the Rural Sports Facility. The “Clear Round” day was designed to give riders the opportunity to ride showjumping courses from 45-95cm in height under competition conditions, but in a low-pressure environment.

The condition of the grounds was ideal, with soft going and an inviting course resulting in clear rounds for riders in all divisions. All ages and abilities were catered for, with a number of very young and older riders with schoolmaster ponies and horses, as well as experienced competitors bringing out young horses for their first taste of showjumping in a big arena.

While the “Clear Round” format was designed to reward all penalty-free rounds with a ribbon, each division had winners and placegetters, decided upon by closest to optimum time.

Results for the day can be found here.

No Brainer Training Day - Saturday 27th February

We were all very disappointed to have our fully booked Valentine's Day Training Day washed out but never mind, we've booked the RSF for Saturday February 27th for our first training day of the year.  Chris Johnson is unable to make it so we are going ahead with Flatwork and Poles & Grids in the morning, and the very hard working Michelle Becchio hanging in there to run the showjumping classes in the afternoon.

February 27th is international No Brainer Day - a day on which we should do things that are "easy, simple, obvious, and/or totally logical".  Definitely a no brainer to come to the training day, there is something for every horse and rider and we will have lots of fun.

To book your slot give Mary Werick a call on 0402 974 449.
